Somat Water Softener Salt for water softening in dishwashers. Somat Special Salt is for water softening in dishwashers. Tap water often contains lime. So that lime is not deposited on dishes and the dishwasher, some dishwashers have a water softening unit which withdraws the harmful lime from the water. Table salt is unsuitable for water softening in dishwashers. It may contain insoluble components affecting the efficiency of the water softening unit. This product keep all my dishes and glasses sparkling clean! Our water is very hard so this is needed for clean dishes.

I've been using Somat salts in my Miele dishwasher for several years.. Our model has a built-in water softener and I think it uses about 1 of these boxes per month give or take. It seems to help with ensuring our glasses are spotless when they come out of the Dishwasher. I used to buy this at a local store for about $13/ea but this deal was much better at under $8ea box and FREE shipping with Amazon Prime! A great deal IMHO since these weigh a LOT!

This dishwasher salt seems very expensive; on the other hand, it's a lot cheaper than the Bosch-endorsed alternative and seems to do the job just as well.
